BEonomics

What is BEonomics?
BEonomics is the name I made up for this blog.  BE, for those that don't know, comes from the commonly-used acronym for Business English.   As the etymology of -nomics in BEonomics suggests (-νόµος, from νέµειν meaning to manage, or control), BEonomics is particularly interested in how to manage BE so that the benefits to both sides of the learning equation are maximised.  More formally, then, BEonomics is the anecdotal look at the interaction between BE teacher and student, their learning environments, experiences and needs.

As a blog, it is not intended as a comprehensive pedagogy, but a way of looking at Business English using some of the more interesting methodologies utilised by the business community itself.   In particular, it will draw for inspiration from service design and behavioural economics. Whether it yields much in the way of fruitful insights is yet to be seen; however, I think that some form of ongoing self-analysis is one of the cornerstones upon which professionalism is usually built so I hope that at least occasionally it will prompt some sort of useful thought.

In that spirit, I welcome any ideas, comments or suggestions you may have, and above all, I hope you enjoy it.
